500 miles and beyond

Netarhat – An aura of Peace & Tranquility

on Sep 25, 2015

Weekends trips are meant to be fresh, fun and full of new experiences. We are tired of typical weekend destinations around Kolkata, that same old digha, mandarmani or sankarpur. North Bengal never fails to charm all of us but train tickets are big issue there. For a spontaneously planned weekend destination it’s hard to get a ticket for north Bengal.

So to get an inspiriting taste of weekend we can go beyond our regular destinations. We can discover the nostalgia of chhotanagpur & the best place to do that is“the queen of chhotanagpur- netarhat”.

Netarhat is hill town at around 3500ft altitude in the erstwhile Palamau district. Spring is very colorful here, full of palash and shimul. Winter is mystic. Netarhat is that lonely town where you can spend your weekend just by doing nothing or walking along the country roads. There are few places of interest in netarhat  like magnolia sunset point, sunrise point, koel view point, upper & lower ghagri falls ( these can be real  adventure).

How to reach: Take Ranchi-Hatia express or shatabdi express from Howrah. From Ranchi hire a car which you can keep for the whole trip. Otherwise buses are available from Ranchi bus stand but car would be more comfortable option to opt for.

Stay: though there are several small places where you can stay, the best option is Hotel Prabhat Vihar run by Jharkhand tourism.

N.B. If you have some time you can visit the famous Betla forest which is pretty close to netarhat;  and  also you can combine your trip with site-seeing of wonder falls of Ranchi Hudru, Jona, Dasam. Else you can spend a day or two at anglo-Indian colony town McCluskieganj.
